the things you are, the things you never want to lose.”

“Leave me alone, Emily! I don’t love you!”

“Why not? What’s wrong with me?”

He fell silent. Luke, that was. He just stared at her. Let’s face it. Emily, wasn’t very pretty. She was chubby and had the worst sense of fashion. Besides being a little heavy, Emily had long silky brown hair, light light blue eyes which stood out with her naturally tanned skin. There was silence and then Emily looked down, “Oh, I get it. It’s because I’m not like the other girls.” She said and looked away. “Fine, I don’t see who could really love me anyway. I just thought you were different.” After that was said, Emily walked away.

Luke stared at her as she got out of his eyesight. He was so tempted to run after her and suggest they remain friends but he couldn’t move his feet. He looked around at all the other people staring and smiled, “Well, I’m glad she’s out of my hair!” He said and everybody began laughing and walking on.

Too bad she was out of his hair for the rest of the high school and college years from that very day.

Eight Years later

Luke sat at the bar in a nightclub. The music was booming and everybody was out in the middle of the floor dancing to the amazing music the DJ made himself. His attention was turned to a new person that sat next to him.

“I’d like one apple martini please.” Said the voice next to him.

He turned a little only to do a double take on one beautiful woman sitting next to him. Luke was currently a photographer and a journalist for the local newspaper. He did have a girlfriend but right now he couldn’t help but stare.

This girl sitting next to him was like a goddess had. She had a perfect hour glass figure. Her long and shiny straight hair fell over one shoulder while a few strands hung in her face. She tucked them behind a double pierced ear. She was looking down but her face was, to him, just outstanding. Pretty pink and glossy lips, a perfect nose that looked so natural, long eyelashes and a smile that was just so heavenly when the bartender made jokes to her.

Now her clothes, Luke was doing a full body check on this girl. Her figure was a definite attraction, he wasn’t going to go into the perverted stuff but he did like what he saw. Her dress was a scarlet colored nightclub outfit and heels to match.

She was perfect.

Just then he snapped out of his thoughts when someone spoke to him.

“Excuse me, if you really must interact with me, my eyes are up here. Oh and where are you staring anyway?”

Busted.

Luke swallowed hard. He dared not to give eye contract with this woman. “N-No, I was just um. . .” He thought of an excuse fast. “Admiring your dress.” He said and stood up, still looking down at her lower body. Only to refrain from looking at her angry face.

“You see, I was just wondering, my sister’s birthday is coming up and. . .” Without thinking, he looked up at her. His eyes widened when he saw her face up front. Yes, it was very gorgeous but something about it stood out the most.

Those light light blue eyes.

But the rest of her face did not look happy. One eyebrow was raised and she was looking at him dead in the eye.

“If you really must know, I made this dress on my own. I finished it today and thought I should wear it out.” She said and her martini came.

Luke swallowed again, he debated whether he should ask her, her name. He had a girlfriend but it was just so tempting that this. . .could be the girl he had in mind.

“W-What is your name?” He asked her. She swallowed her drink and licked her lips before speaking, “Emily.” She said flatly but his expression got so much more in shock.

“Excuse me.” He said and went into the bathroom. He splashed water on his face and looked into the mirror. “Luke, this could just be a coincidence. There are plenty of hot Emily’s out there and this could just be one of them.” He told his reflection and looked behind him as someone opened the door. He could see her in the open door for a while and looked down into the sink when it closed. “It’s definitely her.” He muttered.

Returning back to the seat, Emily looked at him as if she were already expecting a reason why he left so suspiciously. “My phone went off.” He easily lied. Emily nodded and turned back to the bar, “I never asked your name.” She said.

Luke didn’t want to tell her. She might catch on as fast as he did. He smiled and got an idea. Mr. Mysterious, “Well, Emily, you’ll have to find out as the night goes on, who I really am.”

Emily was a bit shocked but a small smile, sly but in his eyes seductive, came to her face. “Well, I suppose that’s fair.”

“Care to dance?” Luke asked. Emily nodded and stood up.

Things were about to get hot.

The dance floor area was hot and moist. Crowds of people were all in one clump dancing to the music.

Emily and Luke found a spot so they can dance with each other and not be disturbed by other people.

Emily felt her backside being pushed against Luke’s torso area. His hands were on her hips, the thing was, she didn’t mind one bit. She immediately began swinging her hips from side to side. One arm was wrapped around his neck and she could feel his breath against her neck.

Luke moved along with her, he took in her perfume while he danced. Secretly, he felt every aspect of her body. Her waist, her hips, if he could go up any further than he waist, he would but she’d probably get offended.

“Are you sure your girlfriend won’t mind you dancing with me like this?” Emily asked over the loud boom of the music.

That’s when it hit him, he did have a girlfriend and he didn’t know why he was having so much fun with Emily. She didn’t know who he was and he wondered if he should keep it that way.

Luke hesitated. If he stopped then he would stop having fun and probably get Emily upset. But if he continued then he would regret it later but forget about his girlfriend and probably sleep with Emily.

Luke figured if he danced with her, it wouldn’t be so bad, right? It’s not like he was doing anything else. “No, she won’t mind.” He said and went on.

As the night went on, the two kept dancing until Emily was the first to exaggerate how her legs were going to fall off. They went over to a lounge and sat on one of the couches. Emily sat back and stretched out her legs after taking off her heels.

Luke looked at her pedicured feet. Without realizing it, her head was back and her eyes were closed. She was smiling for some reason. He looked down and found himself massaging her feet and legs. She looked at his red face and smiled, “Why’d you stop?” She asked.

Luke stared at her for a while. Those light blue eyes just shimmered in the darkly lit lounge room. “B-Because, I was going to suggest another dance. The songs are slower now.” He said with a smile. Emily raised an eyebrow, “You’ve got to be kidding me.” She said but he only stood up and took her hand. “One song.” He said.

She slipped on her heels and walked out to the main dance floor. He took her gracefully by the hand and pulled her close. “You still never told me your name.” Emily said to him.

Uh oh.

“My name’s Luke.” He said, hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Emily nodded, “I knew a Luke back in high school.” She said.

Here we go.

Luke nodded. “He was a sweet one. I loved him with all my heart.” Emily said. “Until he one day told me he didn’t love me because of how I looked.” She said. Luke swallowed hard but pretended to play Mr. Innocent. “How did you look?” He asked.

Emily laughed, “Well, I wasn’t the skinniest I guess you could say.” She said. “I left school that day and transferred immediately. Over those summers I did my best to lose that weight. Hopefully if I were to see him today, I’d hope he’d like me.” She said. “He does.” Luke replied. Emily just had a confused look on her face. Luke sighed, “Well, I guess you could definitely assume I wasn’t the nicest back in high school either.” Emily was shocked.

“Nice to see you again, Emily.” He said.
